           Since 1988, islanders and visitors from around the world have come to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island’s capital city to take part in Old Home Week. It’s an exciting fair, that includes activities such as: amusement rides, a wide variety of exhibits, entertainment, agricultural competitions and the most famous Gold Cup and Saucer horse race. The race consists of highly skilled drivers and the fastest horses. You can cheer on your favourite horse or bet on the horses in the Casino to take home some extra cash for yourself. Following the races, which last throughout the week, Charlottetown takes pride in their Gold Cup and Saucer parade where 60,000 onlookers line down the streets. The parade is filled with dancers, bands, vintage cars and fun clowns. Old Home Week’s focus is honouring Prince Edward Island’s traditions and bringing excitement and fun for all ages!

Digging for Dinner!

            Clam digging is one of PEI’s most authentic experiences to partake in. Picture shoveling for clams along the ocean's shores. Clam digging takes place at low tide and is said to be best done on the full moon because that’s when the tide is at its lowest, so you can go out further. Finding the clams can be difficult, but it is a very rewarding and fun thing to do with your family. You must be aware that some beaches allow clam digging and some don't. After awhile of fun digging you can eat them! Laurelle from Hamilton, Ontario says, “My daughter said after digging that PEI is better than Disney Land... and I am 100% serious... we brought her to Disneyland for Christmas this past year for three weeks....
